The subject
Vitamin W is the project of Will, a Chicago DJ by way of Phoenix — and it really starts in a classroom. March 2015, General Studio II at Suffolk University's New England School of Art and Design in Boston: the prompt was about as open as it gets — take a collection you own and design something for it. New to his first apartment and short on things to collect, he reached for the one thing he had plenty of: music.
He pulled fifteen songs — a "best of" his library — and sequenced them into one cohesive journey, burned to a CD, with a front-and-back jewel-case insert and a saddle-stitched booklet holding the tracklist and a unique design for every song's lyrics. Somewhere in making it, he noticed the thing that would define everything after: each track he'd chosen pulled him back to a specific time, place, and memory.
That became a template. Around 2018 he started noticing how many songs were transportive that way, and began formally documenting it — "life playlists," one song for every month, each tied to an exact moment. This one feels like January 2011, that one like July 2015. He kept it up through 2025, with playlists reaching all the way back to 2006. Music as memory; that's still the core of it.
The DJing came later, almost sideways. At the end of 2023 in Phoenix, his friend Ryan — DJ MITA — started spinning, and Will, already throwing parties, gave him slots at his after-parties. In 2024 Will put on his first ticketed event: SERVE!, a 4th of July tech house party. MITA loaned him a set of decks, Will started playing his own parties, and that was that.
He still builds a set the way he sequenced that first CD — composed, not assembled. House is the core: vocal and disco up front, driving tech house underneath, songs handing off seamlessly with the odd curveball that lands and slips away before it overstays. He plays for the journey — bodies moving, but also the quieter "I haven't heard this in forever" and "how did we even get here?" Music for the communal floor and for headphones at home, mostly queer dance floors — a nod to the community, never a pander. A frequent collaborator with DJ MITA.
Vitamin W is a Chicago DJ—by way of Phoenix—bringing vocal-forward disco and tech house sets sequenced like an album with seamless blends, deliberate arcs, and the occasional odd curveball that lands and slips away without overstaying. He plays queer dance floors, pool parties, after-hours, and private events across the US. His mixes have been streamed thousands of times in over fifty countries and hundreds of cities. Whether you're on the communal dance floor or alone in your headphones, the right track at the right moment doesn't just play—it takes you somewhere.
